Bruce Springsteen has penned a new song for the new veteran film THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, as reported by USA Today. The song, titled "Freedom Cadence," plays over the closing credits of the movie. The film follows soldiers struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after the Iraq War. It stars Miles Teller, Amy Schumer, Haley Bennett, Beulah Koale and Scott Haze.

According to backstreets.com, the film's producer Jon Kilik is friends with Springsteen and asked him to write the song, based on a real life soldier's marching cadence called "Freedom." Director Jason Hall explained how the song came to be.

"Adam (Schumann - the real life soldier that Teller portrays in the film) had a cadence that they sang in boot camp, and Jon recorded him singing it on his cell phone. Jon is friends with Bruce and played it for him. Bruce was like, "Oh, that's cool. How'd the movie turn out?" "Movie turned out great." We played him the movie. Bruce loved it, watched it twice, and then said, "Send me that recording, come back in a month, and bring that kid." So Adam went up there with Jon and recorded the song with him," he said.

Schumann and Kilik are even featured on the song in the background. Springsteen, in addition to singing, plays the harmonium and the banjo on the track.

The soundtrack for THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE will be released on November 3rd by Sony Masterworks. However, "Freedom Cadence" is not listed as being on the album.

Springsteen is currently starring in Springsteen on Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theater, where he performs to an intimate crowd and reads excerpts from his book Born to Run. The show will play 5 times a week through February 3, 2018.
