NBC's highly anticipated live TV production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic family-friendly musical THE SOUND OF MUSIC kicked off rehearsals in New York City this week and executive producer Neil Meron has shared some behind the scenes sneak peeks of the sights and sounds on set of the new small screen tuner.

Whetting audience's anticipation for the musical glories to come, Meron took to Twitter earlier this week to write, "eavesdropping behind closed door listening to @carrieunderwood & @AudraEqualityMc sing MY FAVORITE THINGS for first time. #soundofmusic wow!".

Subsequently, Meron has provided further updates, providing pics of the bagel buffet laid out by NBC for the cast and crew in honor of the first day of rehearsals as well as the front door of the rehearsal room and rehearsal room itself with the cast and creative team at work.

Additionally, new details have been revealed about the production today, as well, via an NBC spokesperson, such as the fact that the cast will be comprised of 61 members, including 4 understudies and 6 Von Trapp children.

An NBC spokesman relayed, "There is no live audience and no proscenium. Instead, the show will look like a film with all the action played live and in sequence."

Also, NBC added, "Major set or costume changes will be made during commercial breaks, but several changes will happen instantaneously during the filming. If something goes wrong in the live filming, that's the way it will be broadcast."

Additionally, according to the NBC representative, "All of the singing will be live, and the music - using a 40-piece orchestra - will be prerecorded in order to ensure the best mix of the instruments."
