Lee Rocker to Rock The Harris Center, 3/8

From appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone to touring with The Rolling Stones, Lee Rocker has done it all. He's well known as a founding member of The Stray Cats: a band that sold more than 10 million records, garnered 23 gold and platinum records worldwide, and were music video pioneers of the MTV generation. But Lee Rocker's storied career - and the show he'll bring to the Harris Center - also includes music from some of the biggest names in rock history with whom he's performed.

And what a performer he is: on stage he is known for making his upright double bass appear as if it were a lightweight thing - spinning it, throwing it up in the air, catching it and playing with abandon, while never missing a beat.

His March show in Folsom precedes the long-awaited reunion of The Stray Cats, who will perform one show with Jerry Lee Lewis at Las Vegas in the spring of this year.

Lee Rocker performs at Harris Center on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $24-$49; Premium $54, plus a 50% discount for students with ID. Performing with a trio, Lee Rocker will not only play covers of beloved songs from The Stray Cats (a catalogue that includes mega hits like "Stray Cat Strut", "Sexy and Seventeen" and "Rock this Town"), but he'll also include music from many other rock icons who have invited him to play his bass on their stage, including Keith Richards, George Harrison, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, Levon Helm and John Fogerty. His concert show is a time for him to tell stories about his time on the road and in the music business for the last 35 years - stories that include backstage gems and the travails of lugging his giant double bass around the world.

Rocker comes from a musical family. In 1982, both he and his father, classical clarinetist Stanley Drucker, received a Grammy nomination - something that has only occurred twice in the history of the Grammy Awards.

In 2012, Lee appeared on Broadway, in the hit musical "Million Dollar Quartet," and in 2014 he was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame. Rocker has received numerous honors for his contributions to music and the arts, including induction to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame.

The Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College brings the community together to share in cultural experiences featuring the work of artists from throughout the region and around the world. Built and operated by the Los Rios Community College District, the $50 million, state-of-the-art regional performing arts center boasts three intimate venues with outstanding acoustics, an art gallery, a recording studio, elegant teaching spaces, plenty of safe parking and all the other amenities of a world-class performing arts venue.
