On Friday night, fans kicked off their Halloween weekend by filling up the iHeartRadio Theater in Burbank, CA for the iHeartRadio Album Release Party with Kelly Clarkson, celebrating her new album, Meaning of Life. During the live event that included a Q&A session with host Valentine, Clarkson performed a selection of new songs including "Heat," "Love So Soft," and "Whole Lotta Woman," as well as fan favorites such as "Because Of You" and "Breakaway." Check out the highlights below!

Highlights:

  • Host Valentine spoke with Clarkson about how this is the album that she's been wanting to put out for 15 years. Clarkson noted that whatever music you listen to in junior high school is the music that you feel nostalgia for, and those singers are the reason why she is a singer now. She always thought she'd make an album influenced by those artists, and now she finally did it with Meaning of Life.
  • When asked by host Valentine to find the word to describe the difference between "yesterday, today, and tomorrow" as it relates to her album dropping earlier in the day, Clarkson said, "I was confident yesterday, I'm going to be confident tomorrow, and I'm pretty damn confident right now! Not even just about the record, I just feel confident in life. I think your perspective changes when you're a parent, and you learn to be happy and confident with the cards you are dealt." She joked, "and the cards you steal!"
  • When discussing the title track, "Meaning of Life," Clarkson noted that, "We're all under construction, but at this point in my life I'm just so happy. It took all of my 20s to work that out, clearing out the weeds and keeping the flowers around me. Once you're surrounded by people you love and are connecting with people that are really good for you and make you a better human on the daily, that's good!"
  • Clarkson picked "Love So Soft" as the lead song on the album because she felt like it was the best representation of the full album.
  • When introducing her song "Heat," Clarkson said, "We love this song. It feels like fire. The first time I heard it I just thought it was so infectious in the most positive way. I'm in a beautiful, loving relationship, but it's a warning not to let the fire die, because I don't care if I'm old, I still want to feel turned on!"
  • Clarkson performed a cover of Imagine Dragons' "Thunder," saying even though she hates working out, this is the only album that will get her on the treadmill, with "Thunder" and "Believer" on repeat. She described her own version of the song as dirty, southern, and soulful.
  • While introducing her song "Didn't I," Clarkson said that even if her kids aren't in the industry she hopes they all have a love of music because"Music helps us. It's the one communal thing that we all can have in common, although we might be different."
  • Clarkson introduced her final song of the night "Whole Lotta Woman" telling the audience, "Everybody always has me carrying the flag of being okay with yourself, but that's normal! Be yourself, and be okay with yourself, and be happy. If you're not happy then change something, and if someone else isn't happy with it, then who cares! You are you. You are the only one with your fingerprints, and your soul, so just love you. Instead of fighting hate with hate, we wanted to fight hate and negativity with something fun, sassy, and comedic."
