Jaye Jayle-the brooding, bluesy rock outfit fronted by Evan Patterson-released a triumph of a debut back in 2016 packed with tales of darkness and tenderness. Originally available from Hawthorne Street Records, House Cricks and Other Excuses to Get Out received vast amounts of critical acclaim, saw Jaye Jayle canvas the globe on tour, and has since been out-of-print.
The frenzy has all but waned for the Louisville band, leading Sargent House to re-press this debut album on vinyl. Limited to 500 copies, the re-press of House Cricks and Other Excuses to Get Out is up for preorder now and will be available directly from the band as they tour North America and Europe to close out 2017.
On House Cricks and Other Excuses to Get Out, Jaye Jayle blended roots tradition with a westerly wallop, writhing in the crosshairs of Southern comfort and uptown soundscapes, beckoning listeners to tread further. If you're not already familiar, you can check out a music video for the album's standout track "Hanging Mirror" here.
Continuing the momentum from the initial release of House Cricks, Jaye Jayle signed to Sargent House and teamed up with label mate Emma Ruth Rundle for a split EP, The Time Between Us (February 2017). Jaye Jayle's contributions to this EP continued to be an exercise in tension and restraint, a tightrope act between singer-songwriter traditions and art rock experimentation. You can listen to The Time Between Us here.
Catch Jaye Jayle on tour in the US with Pelican next month and throughout Europe alongside Emma Ruth Rundle following. More exciting news from Jaye Jayle will surface in early 2018.
