Iyamah Drops Her Debut Project 'Truth EP.1'

Hotly tipped singer-songwriter Iyamah has unveiled her brand of raw neo-soul with her much anticipated EP, 'Truth EP.1'. The 5-track project is out now, holding true to the stripped back sounds that have garnered her notable praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1/ 1Xtra's Phil Taggart, Jamz Supernova and the legendary Sir Elton John.

Born and bred in Brighton by an equally artistic mother, Iyamah found her community in her city's diverse music scene and was inspired to write her own songs. She now cites Erykah Badu, Lauryn Hill and Amy Winehouse as inspirations to her raw neo-soul sound. Being immersed in Brighton's club scene as an adolescent led her to write toplines for drum 'n' bass features, later guesting on the track Senses by heavyweights My Nu Leng which she performed at Glastonbury, Reading & Leeds and SW4.

Following on from her singles 'Cryptic Love' and 'Silver Over Gold', her debut EP cements Iyamah as one of the UK's hottest new exports. With Maverick Sabre, Sam Wills, Charlie Perry and Tom Guy on the credits, 'Truth EP.1' is a project where its richness is evoked without being overproduced or too polished carried by strong melodies and Iyamah's honeyed tone. Interludes and intro's taken from the original sessions feature throughout.

The bass heavy, dub/jazz feel of 'Lone Soldier' chronicles a young woman's independent journey into adulthood whilst the equally poignant and inspiring, 'Silver Over Gold' is an homage to her Brighton roots. The project's closing track 'Silence' is a moving song speaking to the hard truth of making peace with lost relationships. "Since moving to London a few years ago, I've been on a journey of self-discovery about who I am and where I'm from." stated Iyamah "Truth EP.1 is made up of the first songs that came from this. Where I explore worth, my roots, my strength, maturity, and acceptance of self."

Having already secured opening slots on tour with Mahalia and Masego and shared stages with Kojey Radical, Iyamah's own EP launch on March 20th at The Curtain, Shoreditch, sold out within 24 hours.
