On February 24 Minneapolis indie pop band Hippo Campus will release their debut full-length album landmark via Grand Jury Music (US) and Transgressive Records (UK). Recorded by BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso) at Sonic Ranch, the album retains the same relentless energy and impeccable musicianship that animated 2015's Bashful Creatures and South EPs, but finds the band searching for a more mature approach to songwriting touching upon topics such as the complexities of seemingly simple relationships, politicized web presences and glorified suffering.

The band recently released infectious album single "boyish" and tender vocals wash over the lush, almost hypnotic instrumentation on "monsoon", out today. Revealing another layer of their artistry, the unabashedly honest song tackles the conflicting layers of guilt that can be unavoidable when coping with the death of a loved one. Guitarist/vocalist Nathan Stocker shares, "The words in 'monsoon' deal with the death of a family member and the surprising lack of devastating grief. There was joy in the life that had been lived, instead of regret for what could've been. The monsoon itself became a metaphor for not experiencing that familiar and widely expressed "it should've been me" feeling, and trying to tackle that conflicting guilt; the guilt of not feeling guilty. Recreating that world to exist in this song was a therapeutic and rewarding process." The emotive missive is cleverly enhanced by the simplistic beauty of the band-made "monsoon" lyric video which premiered with Northern Transmissions and is available to post/share HERE.

Following a series of performances at SXSW -- Hippo Campus' first gigs outside of their home state -- the band generated an unexpected buzz that would land them a slot on late night TV stalwart CONAN. Over the next several months, while most of their peers were in college, Hippo Campus received their education through tours that crisscrossed the globe, honing their craft on a pair of successful EPs which would go on to sell 25k copies, find a home on alternative radio airwaves and be streamed in excess of 15M times online.

Since that fateful run of SXSW shows in 2015, the band has maintained a tireless touring schedule, opening for acts such as Modest Mouse, Walk the Moon and Real Estate and playing several festival including Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds and more. Hippo Campus has announced a national headlining tour that kicks off February 15 in Fargo, ND. Full list of dates below or click HERE.
