David Ramirez Premieres 'Time'; 'We're Not Going Anywhere' Out 9/8

On September 8, the Austin-based songwriter David Ramirez will release We're Not Going Anywhere, the follow up to his 2015 breakthrough record Fables and second in partnership with Thirty Tigers. Texas Monthly premiered "Time," the third song to be released from the forthcoming album, and said, "The influence of expansive rock and eighties acts are heard in new synth-driven aural textures, but the compelling lyricism that has grown Ramirez's audience over the years remains the backbone of the record."

"I wanted to make a record that sounded like the music I listen to," Ramirez said in an interview with Texas Monthly's Christian Wallace. "When I'm driving down the road, I'm listening to stuff like the National, War on Drugs, Journey, or the Cars. I don't listen to a lot of songwriters or Americana-that just happens to be the kind of music I'm good at writing."

We're Not Going Anywhere is now available for pre-order via iTunes and Amazon, and includes an instant download of "Watching From A Distance," "Twins" and "Time." Stream the songs via Spotify.

FLOOD Magazine premiered the video for "Twins" and said, "In a voice as honeyed as that of Ryan Adams, he couches his criticism in a spaced-out brand of folk that takes notes from the shuffling sadness of The War on Drugs and Hiss Golden Messenger."

The Line of Best Fit shared "Twins" and called it "...a departure from Ramirez's rootsy sound giving way to developing sonic arrangements that are new and firmly rooted in the present day."

UPROXX's Caitlin White shared the news of the album release and said "...the dark country blues of the album is not an overt message, hammered home; instead, Ramirez stands his ground by refining and compressing his sound, creating rebellious, lonely and soothing music in the face of such upheaval."

On the 10 vividly imagined and passionately performed songs on We're Not Going Anywhere David Ramirez takes in the world from his unique perspective: "Being half white and half Mexican has made this current political climate especially interesting. So many cultures in this country are being viewed as un-American and it breaks my heart. My family have raised children here, created successful businesses here, and are proud to be a part of this country. Most of what I've seen as of late is misplaced fear. I wanted to write about that fear and how, instead of benefiting us, it sends us spiraling out control."

For We're Not Going Anywhere, Ramirez partnered with producer Sam Kassirer, who has helmed albums by Josh Ritter, Lake Street Dive, Bhi Bhiman, and many other artists. In January 2017 Ramirez and his band decamped to the Great North Sound Society, an eighteenth-century farmhouse in rural Maine that serves as Kassirer's studio.
