Cloud Castle Lake Announce North American Tour. Release 'Bonfire'

Following on from their stunning return with "Twins" in October, Dublin four-piece Cloud Castle Lake announced they will be returning to North American shores in 2018 (full list of tour dates below) and have released their latest single "Bonfire", out today worldwide via Bright Antenna Records. Like "Twins", the dramatically arranged "Bonfire" was produced by Rob Kirwan (Hozier, PJ Harvey) and is a pure example of just how courageously groundbreaking this exceptional band are. Listen to "Bonfire" HERE.

"Bonfire is based around a pretty simple melody I came up with a few years ago," explains vocalist Daniel McAuley. "I kept being drawn back to it periodically and steadily adding and expanding it until it grew out into a full song. Writing it felt like a meditative task - what I'd imagine knitting a scarf is like. The choir parts were performed by our pals Tonnta, a contemporary choral group from Dublin. The giddiest day of recording for me was probably the first day they came in and sang through their parts. Getting to hear such talented musicians turn all that midi data and notation into music feels like magic. The lyrics have to do with doubt and denial and keeping secrets. They're very loosely based on an old Irish/Welsh myth about rival tribes trying to find out the secret name of the other's god in order to defeat them."

Next month, Cloud Castle Lake will be making their way to North America or a 5-city tour, kicking off onJanuary 29th in Los Angeles. The band will make stops in San Francisco, Chicago and Boston before finishing with a show in New York City on February 6th. The band also recently composed an original score for Ballet Átha Cliath, a beautiful short film produced and directed by Howard Jones and choreographed by Irish ballerina, Zoë Ashe-Browne. The film, shot over the course of one day in August of last year, uses site-specific dance performance to create a visual love letter to the city of Dublin. The film premiered last year at The Sugar Club in Dublin with a live performance of the score. Watch it HERE.

Speaking about how Cloud Castle Lake got involved in the film, Brendan Jenkinson from the band said: "Howard contacted us in 2014 with this idea to do a Ballet film set in Dublin as a kind of love letter to the city. He was working with a choreographer called Zoë Ashe-Browne and they wanted to introduce ballet to a wider audience. Howard wanted a score that reflected the city and its modern musical culture, and so he thought of us."
Having burst onto the scenes back in 2014 with their self-released debut Dandelion EP, the young band has since been championed by critics across the globe. Pitchfork welcomed them for being an "extremely rare case where a band incorporates not just the vocals and the rhythmic vibrancy, but also the pioneering spirit." Stereogum hailed them as "one of the best" to come out of CMJ Music Festival in 2015 and NME called it when they appointed them as the "future trail-blazers" that they are.

Now, equipped with an independent record label called Bright Antenna behind them and an exhilarating body of work up their sleeves Cloud Castle Lake has confirmed their debut LP (produced by Rob Kirwan) will be released in Spring 2018.

Equal parts pastoral folk and soaring post-rock crescendos, Cloud Castle Lake comprises of Daniel McAuley, Brendan William Jenkinson, Rory O'Connor and Brendan Doherty and often features additional collaborative musicians. Hailing from Dublin, the band has supported touring acts such as Glasser, Lisa Hannigan and Nigel Godrich's Ultraísta.
