Two-time recipients of Quebec Music Council's prestigious Opus Awards, Claire Gignac et compagnie , will provide live jazz accompaniment for Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre's Chinatown Blues. The band will play selections from The Beggar's Opera.
Drawing comparisons to Edith Piaf for her vocal styling, Gingac is no stranger to American jazz audiences, earning much praise for her album Chants D'Eros in 2000. However she and her ensemble are better known in their native land having spent the last ten years as regular collaborators with Canadian theater legend Robert LePage. Gignac and her fellow musicians worked with LePage on Zulu Time, The Busker's Opera, and Dreigroschen Song Spiele. Chinatown Blues celebrates Duckler's decades-long commitment to cultural exchange and bringing international artists to Los Angeles. Additionally, it marks the third collaboration for Duckler and Gignac who previously partnered for performances of Duckler's Bowling Blues in San Francisco and Montreal.
