Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata Resurrects Lost Sound of Music Gem

By: Jan. 28, 2011

Fans of the Broadway version of "The Sound of Music" will notice an old favorite on Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata's (BRO) 'The Hills Are Alive' (Canal Records, 3/8). That's because BRO has included "No Way To Stop It," a song that was previously only used in the musical's Broadway production, on the Brooklyn collaborative's bold re-imagining of the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein's score. Soulful, pointed and tightly orchestrated, "No Way To Stop It" begins slowly and softly before building to an inspirational ballad, giving Carolyn Leonhart room to stretch her crystalline vocals across founder Peter Kiesewalter's warmly-arranged musical canvas.

One listen to the alternative take explains why the team at the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization has granted BRO unprecedented artistic license, citing their "affection, skill and superb musicianship."
