Aloe Blacc to Conclude St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights Series, 9/6

Soulful R&B singer/songwriter Aloe Blacc has topped the charts (most notably global mega-hit "Wake Me Up") and crossed genres - from rap to soul to folk to pop and beyond - with finesse as well as a rare ability to address social issues with refreshing optimism. The Grammy-nominated Blacc wraps up the final St. Regis Big|Brave Stars, Bright Nights concert of the summer on Sunday, September 6. "Hailed as an artist with vision and a songwriter with limitless potential," (Billboard), Blacc brings relevance to old-school soul. The rapper-turned-singer-songwriter (and trumpeter) is best known for delivering the stirring vocals to Avicii's worldwide smash "Wake Me Up." He also created the Billboard-topping "I Need a Dollar" (which became the theme song for HBO's "How to Make it in America") as well as the self-affirming hit "The Man." The oft fedora-sporting folk/pop/soul singer blends joyful tunes with eye-opening, poetic lyrics.

A Southern California native born to Panamanian parents, Blacc initially broke into the hip-hop scene during high school as a rapper in the duo Emanon. He went solo in 2003 with his debut "Shine Through." His sophomore effort, "Good Things" lived up to its name as it went gold around the globe with hits including "Loving You is Killing Me" and "I Need a Dollar." His third solo album, "Lift Your Spirit" delved further into a folk-inflected, hip-hop edged, pop-and-soul-filled groove.

"Aloe Blacc is a Renaissance man," according to The Washington Post. He's an artist, a businessman (he spent a post University of Southern California graduation stint in the corporate world) and he doesn't shy away from political activism. His music delves into serious issues, such as homelessness and inequality, while still maintaining feel-good vibe.

"This concert is the perfect way to end an incredible summer season," says PCI executive director Teri Orr. "Aloe Blacc delivers high-energy, lyrical, meaningful songs. And he leaves us with hope."
