Marinas Menu: Discover BEL COLLE Italian Wines

Broadwayworld.com recently had the pleasure of dining at Scaletta on the Upper West Side of NYC with Luca T., the Export Director for Bel Colle Wines. Luca shared invaluable information about Bel Colle vintages and spoke about the beautiful, provincial area of Verduno, Italy where the winery is located. We had the opportunity to sample Barolos, Barbarescos and their Pelaverga.

A little history. Bel Colle Winery, located in the Piedmont region of Italy, was founded in the late 1970's by three brothers, Franco Pontiglione, Carlo Pontiglione, and Giuseppe Priola. Their dedication to winemaking garnered accolades and awards around the globe. In 2015, Bel Colle was purchased by Luca Bosio whose family had grown grapes and made wines in the Asti section of Piedmont since the 1960's. In addition to producing Barbarescos and Barolos, Luca was pleased to work with the prized Pelaverga grape, one that is scarce and specific to the area.

Today, wine connoisseurs and many more enjoy the fine wines of Bel Colle. We sampled the Barbaresco D.O.C.G. 2012 to start our meal with appetizers. The Verduno Pelaverga, 2015 paired wonderfully with creamy mushroom risotto. And the Barolo D.O.C.G. Simposio was the ideal accompaniment for our main course of grilled strip steak.

You'll like Bel Colle Wines. This family winery is steeped in tradition and produces wines at a nice variety of price points. Quintessential Wines is the exclusive importer for the brand. For more information, visit: http://www.quintessentialwines.com/BelColle.
