As a former Lake Arrowhead Village restaurant owner and having lived in Germany for several years, Frank Smedley, a Service Officer and local RE/MAX Real Estate Broker is a perfect fit for helping with the Oktoberfest event each year. Smedley will serve up all the usual Oktoberfest trimmings, including bratwurst, potatoes, schnitzel and of course, assorted beers and wines. The dinner costs $15 per person; however all veterans returning home from Afghanistan eat for free. The proceeds from the dinner go directly toward scholarships for Rim High School students.

"The Oktoberfest is a fun way to bring our veterans in the area together and do some good for the community at the same time. This is my opportunity each year to help out our Post by providing and cooking all of the food, so that all of the proceeds can go directly to the students," said, Frank Smedley. "We hope to see some new faces this year, as we are inviting all veterans in the community, whether you are a member or not. Please come out and enjoy some good food and socializing," said Frank Smedley.

The American Legion Post 360 is dedicated to the local students in the area and by volunteering at the Blue Jay Thrift Store, they were able to raise $12,000 last year for scholarships. They also sent 5 students to Boys/Girls State where they learn about government by practical application, 4 students to the Youth Environmental Conference and sponsored the local oratorical contest.
