This spring, Market 57 at Pier 57 will welcome Al Volo, a contemporary Italian gastronomy inspired by la dolce vita – the art of enjoying life through simple, everyday rituals. Rooted in Italian aperitivo culture, Al Volo brings together thoughtfully crafted food, spritzes, and an elevated yet approachable expression of Italian hospitality, inviting guests to slow down, connect, and savor the moment in a waterfront setting.

Founded by Francesco Realmuto of Realmuto Hospitality Group, Al Volo reflects Realmuto’s vision of Italian dining as an experience, blending contemporary flavors with traditional techniques. The Market 57 location offers artisanal paninis, small plates, and signature spritzes, creating a space where friends and family can gather, enjoy great food, and leave with more than a meal--a lasting impression of Italian life lived well.

“Market 57 is built around experience, discovery, and culture, which makes it the perfect home for Al Volo,” said Realmuto. “Its waterfront setting and design-forward audience allow us to express Italian hospitality in a way that feels authentic, refined, and timeless, while remaining warm, inviting, and rooted in the joy of sharing food and drink.”

The menu at Al Volo centers on classic Italian bites that define everyday eating in Italy. Guests can expect gourmet panini, pizza al taglio, focacce, savory small bites, and Italian dolci, all designed for sharing and spontaneity. A strong focus on spritz culture anchors the beverage program, encouraging guests to pair food and drink naturally, especially during aperitivo hour. The Market 57 location will also feature exclusive menu combinations and seasonal offerings inspired by its waterfront surroundings.

The kitchen is led by Chef Rómulo Barrientos, whose experience across New York’s Italian dining scene—including time at Ficuzza Cucina Siciliana & Pizza and kitchens influenced by Joey Campanaro, Scott Conant, Rita Sodi, and David Strangridge—has shaped a product-driven approach rooted in Italian tradition, clarity of flavor, and thoughtful execution.

"Francesco grew up in Baucina, Sicily and has brought that firsthand passion for aperitivo culture with him to New York — and we couldn't be more excited to have Al Volo at Market 57,” said Claire Bernard, Senior Food & Beverage Manager at Jamestown. "That kind of authentic, personal story is exactly what the market is about, and there's no better setting to experience it than on the waterfront."

As part of Market 57’s curated lineup, Al Volo joins a diverse community of food entrepreneurs and emerging culinary concepts. Curated by Jamestown with input from the James Beard Foundation, Market 57 serves as an incubator for local small businesses with a focus on women- and BIPOC-owned food concepts, aligned with the Foundation’s mission of championing equity, sustainability, and excellence in food.

Catering and delivery will also be available on alvolonyc.com and across major delivery platforms. From premium lunch boxes with panini and focacce to early office offerings and elevated Italian catering, all items will be designed to be easy to order and ready to enjoy.

Al Volo is set to open at Market 57 at Pier 57 on April 24. Market 57 is located at West 15th Street and the West Side Highway in Hudson River Park, between Little Island and Chelsea Piers, and is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. For more information, visit pier57nyc.com/market-57 and follow @pier57.nyc on Instagram.
