The nominees for the final South Bank Show Awards for 2010 have been announced, and include An Education and The Seagull stage star Carey Mulligan, and Enron playwright Lucy Prebble.  Enron will be making its Broadway premiere this spring. Both are up for The Times Breakthrough Award, which will be presented  by Sir Ian McKellen.

The South Bank Show is a television arts magazine show, made by London Weekend Television, presented by Melvyn Bragg, broadcast on ITV and seen in over 60 countries worldwide - including Australia, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Sweden and the USA. Its stated aim is to bring both high art and popular culture to a mass audience.

In May 2009 ITV announced that the show is to come to an end. On Monday 28th December 2009 the final edition of The South Bank Show was broadcast featuring The Royal Shakespeare Company as its subject. Melvyn Bragg announced on this programme, after the final South Bank Show Awards in Jan 2010, there would be a series of ten 'South Bank Show Revisited' programmes transmitted in Spring 2010 featuring updates on previous South Bank Show subjects.

The awards ceremony honors all areas of artistic acheivement including pop, opera, dance and classical music. The honors will be presented in a ceremony to be held on January 26 at the Dorchester in London.

In the theater category, the productions nominated include the Donmar Warehouse's production of A Streetcar Named Desire, the Royal Court's staging of Jez Butterworth's Jerusalem, and the National Theatre's production of Alan Bennett's The Habit of Art. Additional nominees include Julie McNamara, Jenny Sealey, and the theater company Clean Break, all up for the Arts Council England's Diversity Award.
