Masterworks Chorale to Open Twelfth Concert Season With Selections from LES MISERABLES, THE WIZ, and More

By:

Masterworks Chorale opens its twelfth concert season on September 27, 3:00 pm, at the Centre for the Performing and Visual Arts. Artistic Director Kathy Bizarth has returned to lead these dedicated singers who, with Accompanist David Kinrade, share their talents and skills with our community in schools and churches.

The first concert of the season, known as the Scholarship Concert, traditionally features Masterworks' scholarship recipient.

The concert theme is "Music of Home and Family." All the songs are familiar and beloved for their associations with family, country, community, and faith. The program is divided into three categories:

"Coming Home to the People You Love"

"Lullabye," by Billy Joel

"Home," by Charlie Smalls, written for the 1975 Broadway musical "The Wiz"

"You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," a traditional jazz number by Cole Porter

"Bring Him Home," by French composer Claude-Michel Schönberg, written for "LES MISERABLES"

"Coming Home to the Country or Place You Love"

"Oh Shenandoah," an American folk song, possibly three hundred years old

"Georgia on My Mind," Georgia's State Song since 1979, by Hoagy Carmichael and Stuart Gorrell "Thank God, I'm a Country Boy," by John Denver

"Sleep, Kentucky Babe," music by Adam Geibel and lyrics by Richard Henry Buck, 1896

"Coming Home to the Comfort of Faith and Worship -- the Ultimate Homecoming"

"Bright Morning Star," an Appalachian folk song

"The Road Home," by Michael Dennis Browne, from "Southern Harmony"

"Oh Let Me Fly," a spiritual

Ticket prices are $15 for all adults, students with ID are $5.00, and children under five are free.

Tickets can be purchased at the Centre for the Performing Arts box office or from choir members.
