George R.R. Martin, author of the Game of Thrones book series on which the highly popular HBO series is based, is apparently gung-ho on the idea of bringing his creation to the big screen.

The author's ideal scenario would be to have the cable network series continue through eight seasons, and wrap things up with a big-budget, full-length feature film.

According to Screen Daily, during an appearance at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival this week, Martin said of the film's prospects, "If we go seven or eight seasons and then the show is still big enough that we can get the $200 million to finance a huge epic movie to end it ... sure! But that doesn't mean it has been approved. Some people like the idea. Other people don't like the idea."

HBO has already renewed the drama for a fifth and sixth season. With an average of 6.8 million viewers tuning in on Sundays for Season 4, 'Thrones' proved to be the top-rated series for the cable network.

Based on the popular book series "A Song of Ice and Fire," by George R.R. Martin, the hit Emmy-winning fantasy series chronicles an epic struggle for Power in a vast and violent fantasy kingdom.

Members of the ensemble cast include Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Kit Harington, Natalie Dormer, Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner. The executive producers are David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, Carolyn Strauss, Frank Doelger and Bernadette Caulfield, and co-executive producers are Guymon Casady, Vince Gerardis and George R.R. Martin.
