On Thursday, May 12 Michael Solomonov, Philly's James Beard Award-Winner, Best Chef Mid-Atlantic and owner of the highly acclaimed Zahav, will partner with Michelin-starred chef, Saul Bolton to produce an intriguing tasting of modern Israeli cuisine rooted in recipes from Solomonov's critically lauded "Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking" that just named Book of the Year at the April 25th James Beard Awards. The tasting will be a palate-pleasing prelude to the Brooklyn Museum's screening of In Search of Israeli Cuisine, www.israelicuisine.com, the documentary that explores the book's subject.

In Search of Israeli Cuisine is the winner of the Audience Award at this year's Palm Beach Jewish Film Festival. Conceived and directed by Roger Sherman, it was shot in fine dining restaurants, on the street and in home kitchens to chronicle the 100-plus cultures that are encompassed by Israel's uniquely diverse cuisine.

Bolton is the chef of the Brooklyn Museum's new restaurant, The Norm that will be opening later in May. Bolton and Solomonov's 11 small plates menu for the evening includes: Grilled Marinated Eggplant with fenugreek tomato chutney; Crispy Cauliflower, pickled raisins, curry leaf and coriander; Quinoa, Pea, and Mint Tabbouleh; Chicken Pastilla with cinnamon and almonds; and Fried Kibbeh (lamb and bulgur meatballs). The food will be complemented by Israeli wine, beer and limonata.

The tasting reception will start at 6:15 on Thursday, May 12th and the screening of the 97- minute film will be at 7:30. Tickets for the evening are $44, $40 for museum members, and covers admission to the museum, the Israeli food and drink reception and preferred reserved seating for the screening. A $68 ticket that includes a copy of Chef Solomonov's cookbook, is also available.
