Road Less Traveled Productions' (RLTP's) new late-night theatre program, RLTP: Blacklight, has revealed its programming schedule for the first half of the 2011-2012 theatre season.
RLTP: Blacklight, the invention of playwright/directors Drew McCabe and Justin Karcher, will run at 10:30 PM every Friday and Saturday night of RLTP's main production season, following the normally scheduled season selection. "Every weekend, RLTP: Blacklight will offer a mix of new, unusual, and hysterically funny plays, as well as sketch comedy, improv, stand-up, burlesque, neo-vaudeville, live music, and much more," promised McCabe. "All gloves are off and anything is possible."
McCabe announced that RLTP: Blacklight would premiere Saturday, September 10th, with Blacklight Improv Comedy. This evening of improv will feature RLTP: Blacklight's own resident comedy troupe and will return throughout the season, including on Friday, November 27th, and Friday, January 11th.
CSI: Buffalo is RLTP: Blacklight's live episodic dramedy which will debut new "episodes" on Friday and Saturday, September 16th and 17th, and on Friday and Saturday, November 18th and 20th. McCabe says, "Washed-up actors and rappers investigate horrible crimes... but this time, they're in the Queen City!" Karcher and RLTP Resident Playwright Jon Elston will write this new take on the popular TV franchise; Karcher will direct.
Walken To A Bar will be a madcap evening dedicated (as the title suggests) to iconic character actor Christopher Walken. A cast of Walken impersonators will recreate memorably creepy and comical moments from the beloved thespian's oeuvre. This tribute show will be directed by McCabe and debut Friday and Saturday, September 30th and October 1st.
RE: "Saved By The Bell" revisits the schlocky nineties teen sitcom "Saved By The Bell" with a hilariously inappropriate cast of grizzled veteran actors. Shaun McLaughlin (author of RLTP's forthcoming world-premiere comedy Internal Continuity)will helm this offbeat evening of comedy; dates are Friday and Saturday, December 2nd and 3rd.
Gen-Y Fairy Tales will debut Friday, September 23rd and Friday, November 12th. Conceived of by Karcher and McCabe, these world-premiere short plays will put new spins on myth and history alike.
And, in early 2012, RLTP: Blacklight will launch Burtonesque, a dark and magical cabaret based upon the works of visionary filmmaker Tim Burton. RLTP: Blacklight's first multi-weekend production will run weekends from February 4th through February 18th.
A full schedule of RLTP: Blacklight's offerings through February 2012 is included below. Some dates remain TBA; McCabe suggested that appearances by local rock bands and performance troupes, such as the Buffalo Stripteasers, were likely.
All tickets for RLTP: Blacklight will cost only $10, a price point that McCabe said will encourage theatergoers to sample the new late-night theatre's innovative offerings.
The complete current RLTP: Blacklight schedule is as follows:
