THE HEIRESS Closes at Playhouse of American Classics
The Playhouse of American Classic' production of The Heiress will close on February 14, 2010. The Heiress is written by Ruth and Augustus Goetz.
Dr. Austin Sloper is a man of notoriety and means. He raised his daughter, Catherine, to obey him and follow the strict principles he set down. Yet she finds love with the handsome and witty Morris Townsend. Dr. Sloper, convinced that Townsend is a fortune hunter, sets out to destroy the romance. The shy Catherine finds strength and reserves that help her survive but at a terrible cost. Playhouse of American Classics favorites Jennifer Fitzery and Keith Elkins play Catherine and Dr. Sloper.
Tickets are $18 at the door, or $13 for groups of ten or more. A season subscription for all three plays generally costs $54, or $39 for students and seniors (identification required). Tickets are available for purchase four weeks before showtime, so starting January 12 reservations can be made by calling (716) 873-9644.
By presenting lost plays in "Chamber Theater" presentations, PAC brings new life to these plays so long ago left on library shelves. Chamber Theater is a mix of reader's theatre and full production. Using cubes, benches, and folding screens, PAC creates the setting needs for the production and then adds special touches to capture the feel of the play. Actors are often double and triple cast and change with just a suggestion of costume. The plays are fully rehearsed and staged. The emphasis is always on the play and the story it has to tell.
