The American Repertory Theater of WNY is presenting the second show of the 2011-12 season with the production of the original work Fred's Requiem written & directed by Matthew LaChiusa and presented at Buffalo East, 1410 Main Street, 7:30 pm.
First presented in the 2006 Buffalo Infringement Festival, this dark comedy is a woven plot of sub-stories centering around the death of a small-town grocery store owner. Fred's Requiem twists and turns patrons through stories of deceit, grape-farming, redemption, Basement Mary and a few bottles of home-brew. These stories intertwine in a series of vignettes culminating in a bizarre kitchen-table conversation that reveals one helluva dirty family secret.
Written and directed by the 2009 Artie Award winner for Best Original Play, Fred's Requiem is best described as one-part Raymond Carver, one part small- town nostalgia and one-part dysfunctional family values.
