World Premiere of Frida Kahlo Show FRAGMENTED FRIDA Headed to BAM

By:

Fragmented Frida, a deeply personal account of the joys and struggles of renowned 20th Century icon, Frida Kahlo, will receive its World Premiere at BAM (Brooklyn Academy Of Music) Fisher Space for eight performances, April 11th-16th.

"Fragmented Frida" tells the story of the unbroken spirit of a broken woman. This timely piece explores the life, and seeks to capture the essence, of the audacious artist, Frida Kahlo, who overcame seemingly insurmountable adversity that included being relentlessly bullied as a child, surviving a near-fatal bus accident in her teens that left her shattered physically and emotionally and then falling in love with a womanizing genius that would betray her in the worst way.

The work presents a complex Frida as revolutionary, provocateur, activist, self-reflexive painter and as a woman in need of love and validation. Frida was a Mexican Jewish bisexual feminist, four strikes, even in the most progressive times. "Fragmented Frida" taps into the tremendous resilience that allowed this titanic figure to examine her own life and suffering via the canvas so it could be forever preserved as art.

Andrea Dantas, the play's author, portrays Frida. Christine Renee Miller & Jim Parrack are the co-directors. John McNulty designed hair, makeup and costumes. Steven Medina designed the set. Kia Rogers is the lighting designer. Victoria Ratermanis is the stage manager & co-creative designer. Matsy Stinson is the production designer. Reema Sampat is the graphic designer.

Performances 4/11-4/16: Tuesday-Saturday at 8PM with a Saturday matinee at 2PM and Sunday shows at 2pm & 6PM. Running time: 90 minutes. Tickets: $59-$79. To purchase tickets or for more information: visit www.fragmentedfrida.com or call 718-636-4100.
