For the 8th season running Cape Cod Kids on Broadway (CCKOB) produces a full-length musical in a four-week time frame this time bringing Roald Dahls Matilda to Barnstable Comedy Club. The talented group of teens and youth range in age from 6-18, once again including full time Cape Codders as well as summer residents. Matilda is a musical about an extraordinary girl -- a genius born into a less brilliant family who dares to take a stand and change her destiny.The Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. Matilda is a little girl who is unloved by her cruel parents but has astonishing wit, intelligence and special powers. She impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey who not only to recognizes but also appreciates Matilda's extraordinary personality. Unfortunately, however, at school Matilda has to contend with Miss Trunchbull, the schools mean headmistress who rules the school with cruelty and fear. Faced with injustice both at school and at home, Matilda decides she needs to fight back and teach the grown-ups a lesson. The musical is packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs. Children and adults alike will enjoy this story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.Barnstable Comedy Club is hosting the event and will handle concessions. CCKOB's talented cast is performing Thursday 8/8, Friday 8/9, Saturday 8/10, and Sunday 8/11 at 7pm. Performances will be held at the Barnstable Comedy Club, 3171 Main Street, Route 6A Barnstable Village. General admission tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door.Gwen Bainier is the director of Matilda and Lisa Taylor is the musical director. The musical is part of a workshop designed to teach kids and teens all aspects of putting on a show including sets, props, costumes and tech. In addition to performing, many cast members act as crew backstage with the help of CCKOB alumni. Parents also get involved and assist with set design and construction, programs, marketing and ticket sales.Cape Cod Kids on Broadway (www.capecodkidsonbroadway.com), a musicaltheater program for kids, was founded in 2011. CCKOC offers workshops and full-length productions throughout the year. To date, CCKOB has produced Willy Wonka, Youre a Good Man, Charlie Brown, Honk!, Shrek the Musical, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid.
