WHAT to Present I AM A CAMERA, Begin. 6/26

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater pays tribute to the great Julie Harris in the second offering of their summer season, I Am a Camera, a play that helped launch Harris' career.

Inspired by Christopher Isherwood's Berlin Stories, John Van Druten draws an affecting portrait of young people trying to come to terms with their hopes and dreams as the decadence of the Weimar Republic gives way to the relentless evil of the Nazi Reich. Julie Harris won her first Tony Award for her role as Sally Bowles. This seldom-produced play was the basis for Cabaret.

In the role of Sally Bowles, WHAT has cast Ruby Wolf, who played Frankie Addams in a Cape Rep production of Member of the Wedding - another iconic Julie Harris character.

Director Caitlin Langstaff describes an aspect of the play as "four young adults trying on new things, new people, and personas. There is something about being that age when you have
your freedom to play and explore, feeling somewhat immortal to then wake up and realize who you are in conjunction with the rest of the world - and how much you need more than yourself to survive."

Previews for I Am a Camera are June 26 and 27, and are open to the public. Opening night is June 28. A free Playmakers Talkback with the director and cast follows the performance on Thursday, July 3.
