WAM Theatre’s The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls Ends 11/20

By:

WAM Theatre's November Production of ‘The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls' is a comedy collectively written by Jennifer Brewin, Leah Cherniak, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Alisa Palmer and Martha Ross. The production is the Berkshire Premiere of this Canadian play. In keeping with WAM's double philanthropic mission, a portion of proceeds from the production will be donated to The Berkshire United Way Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative. The production opened November 4 and runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm through November 20 at Barrington Stage Company Stage 2 in Pittsfield.

J. Peter Bergman of Berkshire Bright Focus calls the production "....rich and fulfilling....with a triumphant triumvirate of women..." saying "WAM is still new on the scene but this current production should assure them a place in the pantheon of top-drawer theater companies in the Berkshires". Other reviews call the production "excellent.... the strength of van Ginhoven's direction, the talents of her cast, and top-notch support on the tech side from a pantheon of local experts make this an enjoyable 90 minutes of theatre. " (GailSez) with accolades to WAM such as "In a relatively short time WAM has sent shock waves through the Berkshire theatre community. " (Berkshire Fine Arts)

People have two more weekends to catch the show, with a special WAM SLAM happening on November 11 at 8pm. WAM encourages groups interested in women's issues and/or theatre to attend Friday's show and stay afterwards for a raffle/networking event at the theatre sponsored by Mission Bar & Tapas.

The Attic, The Pearls and Three Fine Girls is a visit with the three Fine sisters. Jojo (Barbara Cardillo) is a university professor obsessed with Brecht, Jayne (Deann Simmons Halper) is a bi-sexual corporate shark and Jelly (Karen Lee) is an eccentric artist who loves boxes. A poignant romp through the attic in the home of their recently-deceased father reminds the Fine sisters of their childhood and forces them to redefine their future together.

Kristen van Ginhoven, WAM Theatre's Artistic Director says, "Having Berkshire United Way's Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative (TPPI) as the beneficiary for this production is WAM's way of supporting the agencies, organizations and volunteers who are working together to address teen pregnancy as part of TPPI."

"WAM's commitment to organizations that benefit the lives of women and girls in our community is aligned with the mission of the TPPI. Teen pregnancy prevention obviously isn't only a women's issue, but our strategies to improve sexual health information, increase access to contraceptives and help our kids see a bright future will help improve the lives of young women throughout Berkshire County," adds Kristine Hazzard, President and CEO of Berkshire United Way.

Partner sponsors for this production are The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank and Mission Bar & Tapas. Additional sponsors include Burnham Gold Real Estate, Cohen Kinne Valicenti Cook, Sawyer LLC, Spice Root/Williamstown Motel, Studio Two and Wild Sage.
