Continuing the tradition of offering opportunities for more experienced youth to try out for shows that they would not normally have an opportunity to be a part of, The Un-Common Theatre Company's Young Adult group is excited to announce auditions for TWO shows this coming summer.

The first show, "Welcome to the Moon and Other Plays" will be directed by Un-Common Alumni and Hofstra University Sophomore, Keith Pinault of Mansfield, Ma.This a series of six seemingly unrelated short plays, written by John Patrick Shanley ("Doubt"), that come together to show the power of human connection in our lives. "The Red Coat" is the story of two teenagers swept up in the passion of young love. "Down and Out" is a symbolic story of a Poet and his Love trying to get by while being harassed by the harsh realities of the world. In "Let Us Go Out Into the Starry Night", a man haunted by his personal demons meets a woman in a cafe and the two share a beautiful moment of understanding. "Out West" examines a stereotypical cowboy story, and "A Lonely Impulse of Delight" asks what would happen if your best friend told you he was in love with a mermaid. Finally, "Welcome to the Moon" tells the story of a group of old friends who come together after years apart to confront their past, their present, and maybe their future. The cast will consist of six performers (four males, two females) who will play a variety of roles over the course of the six plays, ranging from young lovers to old men, from a cowboy to the disembodied voice of a mermaid.

Rehearsals will be in Foxboro & Mansfield, Ma starting May 20, 2009 and the show will be performed in the Steps Theater in Bellingham, Ma from June 25 - 28, 2009. Auditions will be held by appointment only on Sunday April 5 from 4pm in Foxboro, Ma with callbacks on Tuesday April 7th at 7pm in Mansfield, Ma. Auditioners should be between ages 16 - 21 and should prepare a 1-2 minute dramatic or seriocomic monologue. The summer musical, this year, directed once more by Christa Crewdson, will be the legendary cult show "Anyone Can Whistle". This wacky, intelligent, highly unconventional musical satire points ahead to Stephen Sondheim's groundbreaking work in the 1970s even as it keeps a foot firmly rooted in the musical theatre's "golden age."

An absurdly funny fantasy by Stephen Sondheim & Arthur Laurents (West Side Story & Gypsy), "Anyone Can Whistle" tells the story of a corrupt mayoress (originally played by Angela Lansbury) who fakes a miracle to revitalize her bankrupt town (through the resulting pilgrim trade) and the ill-fated romance between the rational nurse out to expose the fraud and the easy-going doctor determined to enjoy the chaos it brings. In the end, the show delivers a poignant message about the importance of the individual in a conformist society - but not before aiming its still-relevant barbs at government, religion, science and anything else that stands in its way! With its circus-like atmosphere, "Anyone Can Whistle" features a dazzling, melodic Broadway-style score which overflows with the youthful energy of experimentation, consisting of one showstopper after another.

Rehearsals will be in Foxboro & Mansfield, Ma starting May 20, 2009 and the show will be performed at The Orpheum Theatre in Foxboro, Ma from July 16 - 19, 2009. Auditions will be held by appointment only on Sunday May 17 from 3pm in Foxboro, Ma with callbacks on Monday May 18th at 6pm in Mansfield, Ma. Auditioners should be between ages 15 - 21 and should prepare 16 bars of a song which will showcase their talents.
