Theatre@First Presents BENT, Now thru 9/22

By:

Theatre@First presents Martin Sherman's award-winning play, Bent, at Unity Somerville in Davis Square tonight, September 14-22nd.

Never before performed in Somerville, Bent is the story of Max, a homosexual in 1930's Berlin. Pursued by the Gestapo, he flees the city and finds love and redemption in the most unexpected of places.

Nominated for both the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize, Bent is a landmark play that shines a light on the Nazi treatment of homosexuals and the persistent bigotry of our own times. Bent has been called "beautiful-and human," "a story about the courage to love," and "theatre at its thought-provoking best."

The Somerville production of Bent features returning Theatre@First veterans and an exciting performance by newcomer Jason Hair-Wynn as Max. Somerville resident Nick Bennett-Zendzian directs his first Theatre@First show, aiming to show local audiences a familiar moment in history from a different angle.

For mature audiences: this show contains includes adult content and subject material.

Theatre@First is Somerville's largest community theatre, bringing superlative theatre to Somerville since its founding in 2003.
