Based on the 1998 film of the same name, The Wedding Singer is coming to the Providence Performing Arts Center (PPAC) February 19 - 24, 2008. The musical comedy ran on Broadway for 285 performances and was nominated for 5 TONY awards, including Best Musical.

In The Wedding Singer, "It's 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He's the life of the party - until his own fiancee leaves him at the altar. Heartbroken, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a charming waitress who wins his affection. Unfortunately, Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and Robbie must figure out a way to keep the woman of his dreams from making a huge mistake and leaving his life forever. With a brand new score that pays homage to the pop songs of the 1980s, The Wedding Singer takes the audience back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up, and a wedding singer just might be the coolest guy in the room." explain press notes.

Performance times are Tuesday, February 19th at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. & 6:30 p.m.

Tickets for The Wedding Singer range from $33.00 - $60.00 and may be purchased in person at the PPAC Box Office, located at 220 Weybosset Street in downtown Providence; online at ppacri.org; or by calling (401) 421-ARTS.
