TALKING DREADS, IMPROV ASYLUM, and BEARLY DEAD Will Come to Spire Center For Performing Arts

Two popular tribute bands and a Boston comedy institution will be performing at Plymouth's Spire Center in the coming months.  Going on sale Saturday, May 23 at 6am will be Mystic Bowie's Talking Dreads/August 16; Improv Asylum/August 29; and Bearly Dead/September 18.

Mystic Bowie's Talking Dreads

Sunday, August 16 at 3pm

On “Life During Wartime,” the first single from Talking Heads' 1979 album Fear of Music, David Byrne famously sang the immortal lyrics, “This ain't no party, this ain't no disco…no time for dancing…” Yet all those anti-fun declarations go gleefully out the window when Mystic Bowie, aka the “Head Dread,” takes the stage, re-imagining and infusing fresh life into the Talking Heads' classic catalog with his high octane mix of roots reggae, ska and lover's rock (aka “romantic reggae”).  Mystic Bowie and Talking Dreads have electrified audiences at more than 300 shows across North America, and will do the same at The Spire Center on August 16.

Improv Asylum

Saturday August 29 at 8pm

For almost 30 years, audiences have gone crazy for Improv Asylum's blend of comedy, which hits the stage at The Spire Center on August 29.   Improv Asylum's signature show is full of non-stop, lightning-paced improv scenes inspired by audience suggestions. These quick-witted performers take the stage with no script and create scenes, characters, and songs on the spot, turning everyday ideas into unpredictable, laugh-out-loud moments.

Bearly Dead

Friday, September 18 at 8pm

Bearly Dead, a nationally-touring Grateful Dead tribute, is a party band delivering a full-spectrum live experience filled with danceable energy, extraordinary performance antics, and world-class musicianship. The band's concert-style show at The Spire on September 18 will celebrate the journey of the Grateful Dead from their earliest records until their final tours, while weaving in potent classics from notable jam, rock, and funk artists. Each and every Grateful Dead member is honored through unique takes on the hits, b-sides, and deep cuts. Holding true to the spirit of the music, Bearly Dead frequently adds to their 250+ song catalog and continues to showcase spontaneous improvisation and exploratory jams – live and in-person – making each show a wildly cosmic experience.

Other upcoming events at the Spire include Delta Generators Album Release Party May 22,  Shemekia Copeland May 23, Slambovian Circus of Dreams May 29, Draw the Line May 30, FJ-The Music of Foreigner Journey Friday June 5,  Omari Banks June 6; Flagship Romance June 11; Carbon Leaf Friday June 12,  The Reckoners June 13,  Comedian Don McMillan June 19; Paul Thorn June 20,  Albert Cummings June 26, and An Evening with Livingston Taylor June 27; Karla Bonoff August 1; THE MUSIC OF The Beach Boys featuring PET SOUNDS LIVE August 7; and Tom Rush August 9; Larry McCray August 14; Hey 19!-Steely Dan Tribute August 15; and Ruthie Foster August 21.
