'Sweet Disaster' to premiere at Perishable Theatre
By: Randy Rice
Sweet Disaster, a new play by Charlotte Meehan, new multimedia play combines theatre and animated film in a full production will be produced April 25 - May 11, 2008 at Perishable Theatre in Providence, RI.
Directed by Perishable resident artist Ken Prestininzi, Sweet Disaster is "a paean to the catastrophic and the ridiculous. Taking place in a variety of ostensibly curative settings (a group therapy session, an insurance office lobby, the beach, a car dealership, a confessional, among others,) Sweet Disaster distils those moments of before, between, and after a disastrous event into one conversation between the love that remains and the one who has departed." explains press notesIn describing the play, director Ken Prestininzi said in a recent press release, "Some of us get stuck on a sentence while trying to solve the crisis of our lives. Some of us turn to escapist hobbies or perversions for pleasure. Ms. Meehan looks at us in our state of ruin, knowing we can all feel exiled from our homes, our language and our instinct to play and create. She uses her prowess in research and in mixed media, music, language and imagistic playwriting to wake us to the possibility of being engaged in the act of creating our cultural hopes and pleasures. Her play is big hearted and brings sorrow forward rather than leaving it behind with loss, so that we may continue to love despite disaster." Preview performances for Sweet Disaster begin April 25th. Ticket prices range from $10-20 and are available through ArtTix online at www.arttixri.com or by calling (401) 621-6123.
