Stoneham Theatre Presents THE SECRET GARDEN, Now thru 6/8

This spring, Stoneham Theatre will present the musical version of the beloved novel The Secret Garden. Written by Frances Hodgson Burnett and originally published in 1911, The Secret Garden has inspired numerous stage and film adaptations. This three-time Tony Award-winning musical boasts a lush score by Lucy Simon and is the perfect theatrical event for the entire family.

The Secret Garden tells the story of Mary Lennox, a young orphan, who is sent to England to live with her reclusive uncle and sickly cousin. When this neglected child discovers an equally neglected garden, she brings life (and a bit of magic) back to both the garden and her uncle's manor.

"I remember reading The Secret Garden as a kid and being so excited that a girl close to my own age was the protagonist," Managing Director Debra Rafson shared. "Mary's story has always been one of my literary favorites, so I'm thrilled that Brigit Smith, one of our young company members, will be bringing her to life on stage." Brigit is joined by many other talented actors, including Jennifer Ellis, Kevin Cirone, and Broadway actress Nancy E. Carroll making their Stoneham Theatre debuts, alongside Christopher Chew (A Christmas Carol), Tess Primack (The Marvelous Wonderettes), and Andrew Barbato (young company alum).

The Secret Garden opens tonight, May 15, 2014 and runs through June 8, 2014. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30pm; Fridays at 8:00pm; Saturdays at 3:00pm and 8:00pm; and Sundays at 2:00pm. There is a post-show talkback on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Tickets are $45 - $50. Senior tickets are $40 - $45. Student tickets are $15 (with a valid ID).
