Special Events Announced In Conjunction With Huntington's BAD DATES

In conjunction with its current production of Bad Dates, Huntington Theatre Company will host several special events and post-show conversations. Admission to onsite post-show events is free with a ticket to Bad Dates, available at www.huntingtontheatre.org/season/2017-2018/bad-dates/, by phone at 617 266 0800, or in person at the Huntington Avenue Theatre (264 Huntington Avenue) and Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA (527 Tremont Street) box offices. Tickets start at $25. Performances run from January 26 through February 25, 2018 at the Avenue of the Arts / Huntington Avenue Theatre.

Friday, January 26 following the 8pm performance

A post-show party for the region's culturally minded ages 35 and below featuring backstage access, free refreshments, and live entertainment. Mingle with members of the cast, creative team, and Huntington staff.

The Bad Dates 35 Below party is inspired by date locations referenced in the play. Take a tour of Haley's romantic and unusual dating experiences at our off-kilter French, Italian, and Japanese restaurants. Enjoy the romantically cheesy stylings of our accordion player, or get a balloon creation from our balloon artist. 35 Below tickets are available at all performances to patrons 35 and under for just $30.

Stage & Screen is a collaboration between Coolidge Corner Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company exploring the depictions of shared themes in Huntington productions and acclaimed films - presents Mildred Pierce in conjunction with Bad Dates.

In this noir classic and Academy Award-winning film, Mildred (Joan Crawford) is interrogated by police about the death of her second husband, Monte Beragon. Throughout the film, flashbacks reveal the events leading up to his death as well as the details of Mildred's relationship with her spoiled and social climbing daughter, Veda (Ann Blyth). An examination of successful, ambitious women and how they live, Mildred Pierce is as relevant as ever. Mildred Pierce is referenced in Bad Dates, and the plays protagonist Haley Walker considers herself to be a modern-day Mildred Pierce. After the film, join us for a post-show conversation with Boston Globe's Miss Conduct Robin Abraham.

Robin Abrahams writes the popular "Miss Conduct" social advice column for The Boston Globe Magazine, and is the author of the book Miss Conduct's Mind Over Manners, a guide to social life in 21st century America. She works as a researcher at Harvard Business School and has co-authored articles in the Harvard Business Review, Sloan Management Review, and The Wall Street Journal. A Cambridge resident with a PhD in research psychology from Boston University, her previous jobs include theatre publicist, organizational-change communications manager, editor, stand-up comedian, and professor of psychology and writing. POST-SHOW CONVERSATION WITH PLAYWRIGHT Theresa Rebeck

Meet Bad Dates playwright Theresa Rebeck at a special post-show conversation following the 7:30pm performance on February 1.

Theresa Rebeck (Playwright) is a widely produced playwright throughout the United States and abroad. Her play Mauritius had its world premiere at the Huntington and received the IRNE and Elliot Norton Awards for Best Play. Her Broadway productions include Dead Accounts, Seminar, and Mauritius. Other New York productions include The Scene, The Water's Edge, Loose Knit, The Family of Mann, and Spike Heels (Second Stage Theatre), The Butterfly Collection and Our House (Playwrights Horizons), The Understudy (Roundabout Theatre Company), and View of the Dome (New York Theatre Workshop). Omnium Gatherum (co-written, finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 2003) was featured at the Humana Festival and had a commercial run at the Variety Arts Theatre. Ms. Rebeck's other publications are Free Fire Zone, a book of comedic essays about writing and show business. She has written for American Theatre Magazine and has had excerpts of her plays published in the Harvard Review. Ms. Rebeck's first novel, Three Girls and Their Brother, was published by Random House/Shaye Areheart Books in April 2008. Her second novel, Twelve Rooms with a View, was published by Random House/Shaye Areheart Books in May of 2010. In television, Ms. Rebeck has written for "Dream On," "Brooklyn Bridge," "LA Law," "American Dreamer," "Maximum Bob," "First Wave," and "Third Watch." She was the creator of the NBC drama "Smash." She has been a writer/producer for "Canterbury's Law," "Smith," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," and "NYPD Blue." Her produced feature films include Harriet the Spy, Gossip, and the independent features Sunday on the Rocks and Seducing Charlie Barker, an adaptation of her play, The Scene. Awards include the Mystery Writers of America's Edgar Award, the Writer's Guild of America Award for Episodic Drama, the Hispanic Imagen Award, and the Peabody Award, all for her work on "NYPD Blue." She has won the National Theatre Conference Award for The Family of Mann, and was awarded the William Inge New Voices Playwriting Award in 2003 for The Bells. Other awards include the PEN/Laura Pels Foundation Award, the Athena Film Festival Award, an Alex Award, a Lilly Award, and in 2011 she was named one of the 150 Fearless Women in the World by Newsweek. Ms. Rebeck is originally from Cincinnati and holds an MFA in Playwriting and a PhD in Victorian Melodrama, both from Brandeis University. She is a proud board member of the Dramatists Guild, a contributing editor to the Harvard Review, an associate artist of the Roundabout Theatre Company, a playwright adviser and board member of the LARK, and has taught at Brandeis University and Columbia University. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.

Join author Moira Weigel for a lively discussion about the significance of Bad Dates and the intricacies of modern dating following the 2pm performance on February 11. Humanities Forums are presented in conjunction with all Huntington productions.

Moira Weigel is a writer and scholar, currently at the Harvard Society of Fellows. She recently completed her PhD in Comparative Literature and Media Studies at Yale University. Broadly, Moira is interested in the social and cultural life of technology and how technological and economic changes change our brains, our bodies, and human relations. Her first book, Labor of Love: The Invention of Dating came out from Farrar, Strauss, and Giroux in 2016.
