SpeakEasy Stage Presents George Watsky's WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS 12/6, 12/7

On Sunday and Monday, December 6 & 7, SpeakEasy Stage will proudly present the world premiere of slam poet George Watsky's latest solo show, WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS. An interactive poetic comedy, WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS takes a wry look at one man's struggles with "anti-social" networking, family, and the magic of technology. SpeakEasy's Artistic Associate Jim Fagan will direct.

A native of San Francisco, 23-year-old playwright and poet George Watsky has performed his original work on Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry on HBO, the NAACP Image Awards on Fox, on Black Entertainment Television (BET) Channel and on the Sundance Channel. A Youth Speaks Grand Slam Poetry champion and Brave New Voices National Poetry Slam champion, George has performed at venues across the United States, including the Apollo Theater, the Kennedy Center, and the San Francisco Opera House. In addition, George has shared the stage with Robert Redford, Stevie Wonder, Beyoncé, and President Bill Clinton, among others.
Watsky's first solo show So Many Levels had a workshop production in New York City at the Hip Hop Theater Festival "Critical Breaks" series, and was later performed in San Francisco and Boston. He also co-wrote and played Dante in the Living Word Theater Festival's adaptation of Dante's Divine Comedy at the San Francisco Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. His stage play Harold's Fall or King Will was produced in 2009 under the auspices of the Rod Parker playwriting fellowship at Emerson College, where Watsky is a senior majoring in Acting and Writing for the Screen and Stage. George's theater credits include Much Ado about Nothing at Emerson Stage, The Grass Harp at New Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and Shed a Little Light for the American Conservatory Theater's Youth Conservatory, also in San Francisco.

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS will be performed in the Roberts Studio Theatre in the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street, in Boston's South End. Curtain is at 7:30PM both nights.
