HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES Opens 3/14 at WHAT

By:

Following the huge success of The 39 Steps last spring, WHAT will bring a "wonderfully barking spoof." Directed by Stephen Russell, The Hound of the Baskervilles previews March 13 and opens March 14.

When Sir Charles Baskerville is found dead on his estate, with a look of terror still etched on his face and the paw prints of a gigantic hound beside his body, the great detective Sherlock Holmes is summoned from Baker Street, with Dr. Watson in tow, to unravel the mysteries surrounding his death and investigate the ancient curse of the Hound of the Baskervilles. Packed full of verbal and visual ingenuity, this version offers abundant opportunities for silly comedy and slapstick, bringing new light to a classic tale.

All characters are played by three quick-change actors: David Nelson (Noises Off, The Little Dog Laughed, Danny Casolaro Died for You), Robin Russell (The 39 Steps, Six Characters in Search of an Author) and Ted Vitale (director of last year's hit The 39 Steps).

The company is also giving a specially scheduled performance for 7th grade students at Nauset Regional High School, who recently read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Hound of the Baskervilles. WHAT is thrilled to have this opportunity to perform for these students, giving many their first introduction to live theater.

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater is the award-winning theater company that inspired "a new vigor for theater on the Cape" (New York Times). Now moving into its 30th year, WHAT continues to be a sounding board for new and bold ideas, presenting "continually adventurous theater" (Boston Globe), and year-round programming. The state-of-the-art Julie Harris Stage is a tribute to the six-time Tony award-winning actress and WHAT's Honorary Chair.
