The largest student produced musical in the nation enters it's 66th year this Friday when Carousel has it opening night at Northwestern University.

"Directing the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic Carousel has been a lifelong dream. The 1945 musical is beautiful and heartbreaking, with some of the best music ever written for the stage and a dark, moving story that transcends generations. With a modern re-envisioning and a dark, abstract design, this production will take a psychological look at the struggle to find personal strength against all odds and the dreams we have along the way," said director Tyler Beattie.

"Written in 1945, Carousel follows the tragic story of Billy, a tormented carousel barker, Julie, a mill worker, and their legacy of love and violence. Set in Maine at the turn of the century, the play challenges our modern perspectives on spirituality and relationships by examining the values of days gone by. Blending fantasy with harsh reality, the story whirls through moments of passion, fear, and longing, with one of the greatest scores of all time," press notes explain.

In its 66th year, The Dolphin Show is the nation's largest student produced musical. Boasting Broadway production values and a team of over a hundred passionate students from diverse backgrounds, The Dolphin Show is truly epic in scale. From its humble roots in a swimming pool in 1940 as a fundraiser for the Dolphin Club to its now 66th incarnation in Cahn Auditorium where it has lived for the past 37 years, The Dolphin Show has been a Northwestern University tradition enjoyed by thousands.
