Cambridge YMCA Theater Presents Cole Porter's KISS ME, KATE, 5/2-10
By: Courtnie Mele
The Longwood Players present Kiss Me, Kate at Cambridge YMCA Theater, 820 Massachusetts Avenue, Central Square, Cambridge. Kiss Me, Kate will run from May 1 - 10.
It's opening night for the 1948 pre-Broadway run of Kiss Me, Kate, a new musical adaptation of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. But comedy onstage turns into drama backstage: The two stars, Fred Graham and Lilli Vanessi, are a recently divorced couple in real life and can't stop fighting, while ingenue Lois flirts with everything that moves, much to the chagrin of her on- and off-stage boyfriend Bill. When Bill's gambling and lies land Fred in hot water with the mob, they insist that the show MUST go on...or else.
With classics like "Another Op'nin' Another Show", "Too Darn Hot", "Why Can't You Behave", and "Brush Up Your Shakespeare", Kiss Me, Kate is sure to have you laughing and tapping your feet to some of Cole Porter's most beloved songs.
