CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF Opens March 11 at LTFR

The Little Theatre of Fall River, Inc. will present the classic Tennessee Williams drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at the Margaret L. Jackson Arts Center at Bristol Community College on Elsbree Street in Fall River, Mass. Performances are March 11 at 7:30 p.m., March 12 and 13 at 8 p.m., and March 14 at 2 p.m.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is Tennessee Williams' sizzling Pulitzer-prize winning story of a Southern family in crisis, focusing on the turbulent relationship of a wife and husband, Maggie "The Cat" and Brick Pollitt. These characters are in conflict with each other as well as other members of Brick's family as they gather at the family estate in Mississippi, ostensibly to celebrate the birthday of patriarch and tycoon "Big Daddy" Pollitt, hoping to receive the definitive share of Big Daddy's enormous wealth. Audience members may remember the 1958 movie version of Cat starring ElizaBeth Taylor and Paul Newman in the lead roles. The movie was nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture.

The production is co-directed by Kathy Castro and Bob Gillet. Sue Couitt is the production's stage manager; Cindy Loria and Mary Pavao head the production's costume team; and Betty Teixeira with help from Gail Powers, oversees props.

The production stars Tracy L. Gendreau as Maggie, John Wright as Brick, and Bern Budd as Big Daddy. Also featured in the cast are Linda Monchik, Chris McRae, Katie Mello, Eugene Rheaume, Michael McGill and Marie G. Dawson. Playing the Pollitt children are Hannah Andrade, Andrea and Ethan Amaral, and Samantha and Colin Soares.

Single tickets are $20 for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, with discounts available for students, seniors and groups of 20 or more. $10.00 student rush tickets are also available for the Thursday night production one hour before show time (6:30 pm). A student ID is required.

On opening night, Thursday, March 11th, there will be a discussion on Tennessee Williams and his work led by Professor James Nee of the UMD English department. This will begin at 6:30 in the Jackson auditorium.
