From April 3 - April 12, 2014, The Boston Teen Acting Troupe will present the New England premiere of THE DREAM OF THE BURNING BOY, the hit Off-Broadway drama by David West Read. This will be the first production entirely produced, directed, acted and designed by teenagers. The play will be directed by Jack Serio and performed in The Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at The Boston Center for The Arts, 527 Tremont St in Boston's South End.

THE DREAM OF THE BURNING BOY premiered off-Broadway in 2011 at the Roundabout Underground. A 2011 Drama League Award Nominee and an Outer Critics Circle Nominee for the John Gassner Award for a New American Play, THE DREAM OF THE BURNING BOY follows a high school overachiever's sudden death that exposes a secret that could destroy those left behind, or bring them closer together. It is a bittersweet story of choices made, opportunities lost, and finding the strength to move on.

David West Read is a New York-based playwright and screenwriter whose credits include The Performers, which premiered on Broadway at the Longacre Theatre in fall 2012. He has been commissioned to write plays for the Roundabout Theatre Company, Burnt Umber Productions and South Coast Repertory, as well as screenplays for B-Spoke Entertainment and Bunce Media. Read is a graduate of the Lila Acheson Wallace Playwrights Program at The Juilliard School and the MFA program in Dramatic Writing at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Veteran Boston teen director Jack Serio will helm the premiere, marking this his ninth production with The Boston Teen Acting Troupe. Past credits include All My Sons, Red, Dog Sees God and God of Carnage.

The Boston Teen Acting Troupe was founded in January of 2011 with the goal of bringing enriching, engaging and edgy theatre to teens, as well as providing an outlet for Boston teenagers who are serious about their craft, whether that is acting, directing or design. The Boston Teen Acting Troupe's goal is to eliminate the cliché of "bad high school theatre" by producing challenging plays not normally seen performed by young actors. Since 2011, The Boston Teen Acting Troupe has produced ten completely teen run shows in a variety of Boston and Cambridge theaters. Coverage in The New York Times and on National Public Radio have created a fan following for the fledgling theatre group.

THE DREAM OF THE BURNING BOY opens Thursday, April 2, 2014 and runs through Saturday, April 12th, 2014. Regular single tickets are $25.00, with discounts for students and seniors. Performances are Thursdays at 7:30PM, Fridays and Saturdays at 8PM, Saturdays at 2PM and Sundays at 2PM. Tickets may be purchased through the Boston Theatre Scene box office, by phone at (617) 933-8600, or online at www.bostontheatrescene.com. There may also be tickets available at the box office the day of each performance, though advance reservations are recommended.
