Boston Public Works Theater Company to Premiere HARD AND FAST: A LOVE STORY, Today

By:

The world premiere of the full-length play, HARD AND FAST: A LOVE STORY, is set for November 20 at 8:00 p.m. at the Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA (539 Tremont Street, South End, Boston, MA). This high-octane story about love, obsession, and fast cars, written by Jess Foster, is the first production of Boston Public Works Theater Company's second season.

Roger, a struggling mechanic, has a real passion for restoring classics. He's finally found his dream car, "Audra", a 1958 Austin Healey. When a wealthy lawyer wants to buy the car for his 16-year old son, Parker, the offer is too good for Roger to refuse. He makes one stipulation: Parker must help finish the car's restoration to understand its true value. When the time comes, will Roger be able to let the car go, or will his strange new feelings for Audra make it too difficult to give her up? Is this a bizarre obsession, or something much more?

HARD AND FAST: A LOVE STORY is about the bond between men and their cars. This fascination represents freedom, independence, and masculinity, and is often overtly sexual. "I grew up around car guys," said Jess Foster. "I wanted to explore that obsessive relationship, and what would happen if that relationship was threatened by other men." The question she poses with her play is, "Is this an infatuation, or do they really fall in love with these machines?

Written by Jess Foster, directed by Dawn M. Simmons and produced by Steve Lozier, HARD AND FAST: A LOVE STORY stars David Anderson as John, Mike Budwey as Roger and Zach Winston as Parker.

On the production team are: Stephanie Hettrick, Stage Manager; Lila West, Costumes; Natalie Khuen, Scenic Designer; Emily McCourt, Lighting Designer; and Andrew Will Duncan, Sound Designer.

Run Time: Approximately 1 hours, 30 minutes. Ticket Prices: $25; Seniors/Student - $15 with valid ID, in person at the box-office only; Limit - one ticket per valid ID. Box Office: 617.933.8600; BostonPublicWorks.org.
