Boston Dance Theater Will Present CROSSCURRENTS at Mosesian Center for the Arts
Guest artist Anugraha Raman joins BDT's first main stage show as Watertown's dance company in residence
Boston Dance Theater (BDT) will make its Watertown debut at the Charles Mosesian Theater this June in a special co-production with the Mosesian Center for the Arts.
Titled Crosscurrents, the evening brings together Boston Dance Theater, the BDT Trainee Program, and Indian classical dancer and yogi Anugraha Raman in a dynamic program of contemporary and classical dance. Featuring BDT's professional company, emerging artists from the BDT Trainee Program, and guest artist Anugraha Raman, this evening brings distinct movement practices into conversation, where they meet, intersect, and reshape one another.
Spanning repertory by internationally recognized choreographers, new works created for BDT's Trainee Program, and a guest performance rooted in Bharatanatyam and yogic philosophy, Crosscurrents offers a layered and immersive audience experience. The program moves between virtuosic contemporary dance, embodied philosophical practices, and intergenerational artistic exchange, creating a rich field of dialogue across styles, lineages, and ways of knowing the body. The evening features selections from BDT's repertory, including works set to music by Johann Sebastian Bach and Maurice Ravel, alongside new creations by emerging choreographers.
Guest artist Anugraha Raman brings a Bharatanatyam-based practice informed by yogic philosophy, offering a deeply expressive and culturally rooted perspective, and was introduced through the Mosesian Center for the Arts' Artist-in-Residence program review process, where her work was identified as a compelling complement to this collaboration. “This performance is about bringing different ways of knowing and experiencing the body into one shared space,” says Jessie Jeanne Stinnett, Founder and Co-Director of Boston Dance Theater. “Each work approaches movement through its own system, musical, cultural, or embodied, and together they create a conversation that we hope audiences can feel as much as understand.”
As BDT's first presentation in Watertown, Crosscurrents marks the beginning of a new relationship with the surrounding community and the Mosesian Center for the Arts, where BDT became a Company-in-Residence in November 2025, developing and rehearsing new work in the multidisciplinary arts space. The program reflects BDT's commitment to artistic rigor, collaboration, and accessibility, offering audiences an inviting entry point into contemporary dance.
The performance runs approximately 75–90 minutes with one intermission. A bar will be open during intermission, creating a social and welcoming environment for audiences to connect.
