The award-winning Beau Jest Moving Theatre returns to their roots and The Charlestown Working Theater, with ?their world premiere production of a gentle, new comedy, Apt. 4D. The physical theater ensemble creates a detailed world using movement, language, and a bare stage to evoke the epic hopes and fears three ordinary people experience when a mysterious woman moves in next door.

Meg the librarian, Hunter the filmmaker, and Avery the laid-off executive are brought together by chance and geography. All three reside at the Franklin Arms, a pre-war apartment building that has seen better days. The comfort of their solitude at home is in stark contrast to their uncomfortable proximity as neighbors. The arrival of a mysterious stranger in Apt 4D is the catalyst for a series of imagined and real adventures, that lead from the laundry and mailroom to the basement and the roof. Apt 4D is a quiet examination of the heroic quest to make it through the day.

Beau Jest Moving Theatre is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. Their most recent show, Ten Blocks on the Camino Real, and their earlier production of Tennessee Williams' Remarkable Rooming House of Madame Le Monde, both premiered at The Charlestown Working Theater before going on tour. Apt 4D will be part of the Ko Festival in Amherst this July. Their production Samurai 7.0 was nominated for an Elliot Norton Award, and their 1995 adaptation of the classic George Herriman comic strip "Krazy Kat" won a Boston Theater award for best local ensemble production.

Beau Jest Moving Theatre uses a vocabulary of physical theater techniques to adapt novels, movies, short stories, traditional scripts, and original concepts for the stage. Each show is developed in close collaboration with a team of actors and designers who find imaginative solutions to theatrical problems using movement, music, and improvisation to create theater that is compelling, fresh, and playful. This production features two founding members of Beau Jest, Lisa Tucker and Davis Robinson, joined by company members Robin Smith and Kathleen Lewis.
