BWW Preview: Sounds of the Season Sings of Holiday Spirit on Cape

By:

If you happen to be one of the many for whom the holidays can't come soon enough, and for whom there are never enough carols to be sung and laughter to be had amongst loved ones, then fortunately, there is an upcoming show that will without doubt embody all that the spirit of the holiday season has to offer. The Academy of Performing Arts, located right in the heart of Orleans, presents Sounds of the Season, a musical revue featuring a fun and eclectic mix of songs both old and new that is bound to put anyone in the gift-buying, celebratory and lighthearted spirit that proves Christmas magic is indeed upon us. Assembling many of the Academy's favorite performers who have been bringing quality performances to a Cape Cod audience for years, each takes part in a beautiful medley of solos, duets and group numbers that are upbeat, contemplative, jolly and overall provide a wonderful way to spend an evening amongst friends and family, in the presence of songs that perpetually remind us of what is to feel thankful and loved.

This is not simply a revue made up of entertaining Christmas songs, though: with an absolutely stunning set accompanied by projections of gently falling snow, illuminating Thomas Kinkade's reflective artwork in the background, there is this wonderful feeling of peace as one sits down to watch the beauty that is Sounds of the Season. It is as though the audience has been transported to a place that is all at once occupied by others involved in the celebration yet is entirely devoid of anything and anyone except the hope and joy instilled in one's heart when these performers begin to sing. It is reminiscent of sitting in the family living room, surrounded by ones near and dear with the fireplace ablaze and the warmth of the entire scene so prevalent to remind us all of why we have gathered to see these performers sing of all that the holidays have to offer: whether that be through the somber mood of the gorgeous Ave Maria, through those of the musical genre such as Irving Berlin's "Snow" or the catchy tunes of many beloved songs like White Christmas, as director Peter Earle emphasizes, "If you're not in the holiday spirit when you arrive, you darn well will be by the time you leave!"

If you are looking for an evening of beautiful music, good company and one that will undoubtedly get you into the spirit of the holidays, Sounds of the Season is a wonderful show to attend! All performances take place at the Academy Playhouse, located at 120 Main Street in Orleans (with the exception of December 17th, a special performance instead held at the Chatham Bars Inn at 5:30). The performance schedule is as follows: opening tonight, November 27th, the show will run until December 20th and will have performances on Fridays and Saturdays @8 PM and Sunday matinees @2 PM; wine and beer will be sold during all Friday and Saturday performances. Raffles will also be sold at every show, and if patrons bring an unwrapped toy donation, they will receive two free raffle tickets. Tickets are $22 for either performance and can be purchased by visiting the box office in person, by calling (508) 255.1963 or by going to www.apacape.org.

Enjoy the show!
