Artists From Suburbia Announces Farewell Production AN EVENING OF DEVISED THEATRE Image

Artists from Suburbia, a leader in new and experimental community-based theatre on Boston's south shore, today announced their farewell production, "An Evening of Devised Theatre," on May 18, 2018, 8 p.m. at the East Bridgewater Public Library. The production incorporates the talents of established theatre professionals in the Boston area with community members on the south shore to create original theatre pieces during a two-day rehearsal process. The theatre initiative will close after this production due to new career opportunities for its co-founders and current operators - Andrew Child and Gavin Damore - in the Boston and the Chicago areas.

"An Evening of Devised Theatre" features the following pieces:

  • Darwin's Ark - directed by Andrew Child - an exploration of how gender, sexuality, ability, race, and social class intersect with our beliefs about the survival of the fittest, set against the background of an apocalyptic happening.

  • Falling Up - directed by Jamie Semel - An exploration of the physical world and soundscape of Shel Silverstein's poetry.

  • How to Remain Resilient: An Exploration of Self-Care - directed by Kalee Burrows - An exploration of how the body harbors our personal histories and how it can maintain strength during challenging times.

"We are excited to end Artists From Suburbia's three-year run with our 'Evening of Devised Theater,'" said Andrew Child, Artists From Suburbia's artistic director. "While we're sad to say good-bye to this group, this final production captures what has made its evolution such an incredible journey - bringing experimental performance into community theatre spaces, and combining the talents of Boston-based theatre professionals with community members on the south shore."

Artists From Suburbia presents An Evening of Devised Theater through a grant from the Bridgewater Cultural Council, a program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
