Arthur Miller Expert Susan Abbottson to Speak at Huntington's Theatre Company's 'Humanities Forum' 1/17
In conjunction with the Huntington Theatre Company's production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons, Miller expert and author Susan Abbottson will speak about the historical context of the father/son relationship and how it relates to Miller's family background at the post-show Humanities Forum on Sunday, January 17.
Professor Abbottson received her doctorate from the University of Connecticut in 1997 with a dissertation that offered a comparative study of the late plays of Miller and those of African-American playwright August Wilson. An assistant professor of modern and contemporary drama, at Rhode Island College, Abbottson is a leading scholar on Miller's work and has published three books including Critical Companion to Arthur Miller (2007) and Understanding ‘Death of a Salesman' (1999), as well as many articles on this seminal American writer. Her teaching guide for The Crucible will be published shortly by Methuen Press. Past President of the Arthur Miller Society, she still serves on their Board and manages their website. She is also the Performance Editor for the Arthur Miller Journal and was one of a panel of experts to discuss Arthur Miller on Tom Ashbrook's "On Point" on NPR.

Joe Keller strives for the American Dream, but two years after WWII's end, his family still suffers from its aftershocks. When Chris, the elder son, announces his plan to marry his still missing-in-action brother's fiancée, a mother must confront her denial, a son his father's fallibility, and a father his true responsibilities.
