Alan Campbell Joins Cast of Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater's SEMINAR

By:

Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater welcomes Alan Campbell to Seminar, directed by Christine Toy Johnson, with Satomi Blair, Jacob Heimer, Rachel Casparian and local favorite Ben Berry. Seminar opens with previews May 14, 15, and runs Thursdays to Mondays through June 13.

Campbell received a 1995 Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Musical for his performance as Joe Gillis in Sunset Boulevard opposite Glenn Close, Betty Buckley, and Elaine Paige. He also received the Drama-Logue Award for his performance in Sunset Boulevard's American Premiere in Los Angeles. Campbell starred in Susan Stroman's 2000 Tony Award winning Contact at Lincoln Center.

Campbell's many stage credits include David Mamet's Race, Death and The Maiden, and 12 Angry Men, as well as Christopher Durang's Adrift In Macao. Campbell is currently playing the role of Sam Carmichael in Broadway's hit musical, Mamma Mia!.

Director Christine Toy Johnson brings over twenty-five years of experience as a theater professional to Seminar, working in all venues of the industry including Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, regional theatre, film, television, commercials and the concert stage. Johnson is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright, published journalist, producer, public speaker, and an activist for diversity and inclusion.

A provocative comedy from Pulitzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck, Seminar is a story of four aspiring young novelists who sign up for private writing classes with Leonard (Alan Campbell), an international literary figure. Under his recklessly brilliant and unorthodox instruction, some thrive and others flounder, alliances are made and broken, sex is used as a weapon and hearts are unmoored. The wordplay is not the only thing that turns vicious as innocence collides with experience in this biting Broadway comedy. Seminar contains brief female nudity and adult situations.

Seminar opened on Broadway on November 20, 2011 with Alan Rickman in the role of Leonard (replaced by Jeff Goldblum on April 1, 2012), closing after 191 performances.
