The American Repertory Theatre will open its 2009-2019 season with ‘Shakespeare Exploded,' a festival of theatrical events inspired by three classic plays by Shakespeare, according to the theater's website.

The events include a 70s dance-off at The Donkey Show, a disco adaptation of A Midsummer Night's Dream; Sleep No More, an "adventure theater" work inspired by Macbeth and Hitchcock's thrillers; Best of Both Worlds, an R&B and gospel musical holiday celebration that takes its story from The Winter's Tale; and the A.R.T. Institute's limited run of the Shakespeare play The Winter's Tale in early October."

Additionally, as part of the theatre's new play reading series, a reading of playwright Sarah Schulman's ‘The Lady Hamlet' will be performed by Tony nominee Kate Burton and Jennifer Van Dyck. Peter Dubois will direct the reading.

‘The Lady Hamlet' is a 1920's backstage comedy about two great female stage divas competing to play the role of Hamlet on Broadway.

The reading will be held at the American Repertory Theater at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, on Tuesday, October 20, at 7:30pm. Attendance is free.
