There was a thread a while ago that said a mini-tour had been confirmed but there wasn't any official info. I'll look for the thread.

I wish they would do a full-scale tour. People have said a tour would not do well, but people who subscribe to series shows on the road are often more open to new theatre than you give them credit for. True, many of them are old, which makes shows like Avenue Q a tough sell, but Spring Awakening did very well in my city as far as reception goes. My grandparents loved it, as did most of their friends. next to normal could very well find an audience, since it is mainly about a middle-aged couples struggles.

The Chicago Tribune has stated that N2N is planning a mini-tour with a Chicago stop. Here are also a bunch of other tour speculations:

Does mini-tour just mean a few cities?

And likely smaller venues. I doubt they'd try to do the show in the big touring houses.

I hope they find theatres that suit this show.

Ah ok. That's good news about the venues. I think this show would require an intimate house.

This is the type of show where I wish the producers would arrange essentially a co-production amongst a string of LORT theatres, as opposed to a traditional tour. For the most part your LORT houses are smaller and much more intimate than the vast majority of the road houses, and there are many companies where they can put in a new and slightly "experimental" musical like Next to Normal without worrying about completely alienating their subscription base. I could easily see this show spending a season going from places like the Cleveland Playhouse, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, the Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Arizona Theatre Company, etc, etc.

Ooh. If that did happen, there's a chance it could come here to Knoxville, TN. There's an LORT theatre here (I'm seeing Little Shop of Horrors at it this fall). If it did go to LORT theatres, it would probably only go to the ones in big cities... but hey, there's still room for hope.

ETA: Actually, I was just thinking about how Knoxville is a college town and holds the main campus UT. Maybe Knoxville would be a little more likely to hots this show because the Producers would like to put the 'edgey-rock' show in a college town. Really though, that just means we have a 20% chance instead of a 5% chance.

Remember, the producers choose very few of the cities that the show goes to. They may approach one city or another in terms of where they want to tech/open and make an offer to them, but other than that it is pretty much up to the local presenter to say "we want to book your show into our season."

I think they might benefit from a tour like CAROLINE, OR CHANGE did rather successfully. I believe they took most of the original cast to Boston, LA, and maybe San Francisco? I can't remember all their stops but I do recall that the tour got raves everywhere they went and from what I heard there were a lot of people who went to see the show.
For selfish reasons however I wish NEXT TO NORMAL came to FL as I'd love to see it on tour even if I get to see it in NY at some point this summer.

^ Ya know what, ray. If N2N came to south florida I might be able to see it. I go down there almost every year to visit my family. I guess it'd be even better if it came to Florida and EAst Tennessee.

are there any dates on when it will be in Chicago and I know tickets are on sale through October 18th, do you think they will at least extend this through the holidays, and how long do you think that it will be on broadway Through the holidays, next summer, or shorter or longer, because it did have a 96% sales last week

It all depends on how sales are through the rest of the summer. If it continues how it's been going it would likely extend (well not really extend since it's open ended, but you know) into winter.

It's becoming the "little show that could".

At this point, I'm hoping it will be able to remain open through January....remember when it was just us hopingit would make it for Aaron to come back to???

But we'll just have to wait and see.
