Even though it is nice when older shows return, I am a bit disappointed that some are especially since they just were in the couple of seasons (specifically Mamma Mia and Avenue Q). Also, Cats came within the past couple of years. Lion King has not been around in a few years, though.
I am excited for In the Heights and August Osage: County, but my feelings about the season are mixed.

I think that's an awesome season, you guys should be EXTREMELY grateful. I would kill to have that season, this is my season (which is unusually better than my town's past seasons).

Be grateful.

Happy to be getting August and maybe even Fiddler.
Not terribly inspired though.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I'm thrilled about August and In the Heights, but I could care less about the rest of the shows. I know I'm probably a little spoiled because we have had some fantastic past couple of seasons. To me, this is more of a clunker. But you take what you get.
This 2009-2010 season is a mixed blessing. Good news: In the Heights and August: Osage County, and there are those up here who'll be happy with Avenue Q and even Young Frankenstein (not me), but many of the other shows have been this way one too many times. And can someone cure the BW in Boston organization from its semi-addiction to Mamma Mia? I mean, mamma mia!!...enough's enough.
Last year (or the year before, I forget) they had Spamalot come twice in one year, after having it come a previous season. I guess Boston is just looking to fill a gap.
I am semi-happy about Avenue Q because I missed it the first time around (but I could see it in NYC if I wanted).
I saw Young Frankenstein twice on Broadway, and was less impressed the second time around. Maybe I would see it depending on who is in the tour cast.
I actually no longer live in Boston and am closer to NYC, but I might go back up to Beantown to catch a couple of shows.

I'm meh about the season, myself. Mamma Mia always comes here...in fact I've seen it three times and all were Boston during various pre-broadway or national tours. Fun show, but I'd like something new to visit.
I am, however, excited about Dreamgirls and August. I love Avenue Q, but it was here last year. However it sold very, very well, so that may be why it is returning again. I have never seen Fiddler, so I'd probably see that one.
As far as I know, these productions are all Equity, FindingNamo. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, though.
^ I don't know about that Christmas thing, but Avenue Q and Cats are both non-equity.

It's a good season for us I believe. I cant wait for August, In The Heights, Young Frankenstein, and Fiddler..also it's not there but according to the Facebook page Dreamgirls will be playing the Colonial!
According to the equity website the only two shows that Boston is getting that are non equity are Cats and Avenue Q. Technically, Avenue Q was not listed as non equity, but it has been known for a while that the next tour that would be going out would be a non equity production.

Having never been to the Colonial Theater can anyone give me advice on how the cheap seats are there? Seats to avoid?
We're considering taking a bus up from NYC to see RENT in Boston.
Ticketmaster is showing $20 seats at the Colonial and I'm wondering how they are.
It's probably all we can afford when we add meals and transportation in just for the day trip, but don't want to do a 9 hour round trip commute only to have a miserable experience. :)
The Colonial is a very stacked theater, so the balcony isn't too bad. I sat there the last time Avenue Q was in town and it actually wasn't too bad for that show. Very high, however. I don't agree that I feel very far away, though. It's not orchestra close, of course, but still not a bad deal for $20. Now the balcony in the Opera House...there you feel miles away!
NuMystic, are you a student by chance? I believe Rent is going to have student rush tickets as part of Broadway Across America-Boston series, but I'm still waiting for details from their facebook page. They are usually $25 one hour prior to showtime (but they usually are not available on Sat evening). Also, I'm sure the regular $20 front rows seats are happening, but I haven't heard if they are general rush or lotto yet. Anyone?
The cheapest seats at the Colonial are in the far sides of the balcony. Depending on what you get and the production design of the show, your view can either be partially obstructed or you spend a lot of time looking at the backs of the performers.
is it bad that I'm most jealous of PIttsburgh's season?
I'm really dissapointed with Philly's. The only exciting ones are August and Dreamgirls. We don't get Xanadu, Young Frankenstein, In the Heights, or South Pacific.
I believe that just like on Broadway it up to the producers of the show. The producers have asked that Rent on tour have a lotto and so most theatres have been nice enough to do so. But, it wouldn't shock me to hear that they were going to do the lotto plus the typical Broadway in Boston student rush.
