Shrek & 9 to 5 Review - May 2nd

I just got back from seeing 9 to 5 and Shrek so I thought I would leave a little review on what I thought of the shows. First 9 to 5:
In one word I would have to say AMAZING!!! I thought it was a great show. Allison, Megan, and Stephanie play their parts so well. I was a little nervous to hear Allison sing but she really surprised me with how good she was. Megan just blew me away but i felt that she was trying too hard to imitate Dolly Parton. Stephanie definately was the stand out for me. I just wish she had more than just one big number then Get Out And Stay Out. But what she does with that song is amazing. After the song was over SJB got a mini standing ovation and you could tell by her face she really appreciated it. The songs were good some forgettable but the rest were great. The part that i laughed the most at would be Kathy Fitzgerald song. I just thought that was a great number. The comedy in that scene was so funny.

Shrek:
I had seen Shrek once before and thought it was cute. This time was no different. It is great for kids but some of the book and lyrics are not all that appropriate for children. Was it really neccessary to have that many curses? We had an understudy on for Shrek. Ben Crawford was so good. I was starting to like his voice more then Brian D'Arcy James' but they are both great and do amazing things in the show. Sutton Foster was very funny tonight. She really looks like she is having a great time doing the show. Daniel Breaker was the show stealer. His comedic timing is great. But all in all the show as cute that's all i really have to say about it. Oh and by the way Sutton Foster came out to sign at the stagedoor....very shocking lol :)

re: Shrek - the first time I saw it, I was not a big fan, but I learned to love the recording, and when I went back to see it I enjoyed the show as a whole a lot more! I also noticed some acting moments that I thought were off (either a bit forced or that I didn't think fit that well), however this time through I didn't feel that was as much...maybe it was the 2nd viewing, or maybe I just knew what to expect!

I love the recording too. I think I enjoyed it more the first time was because I was with a child and I got to see the show through his eyes and that was pretty cool. This time there was no child so I was just watching it for myself and thought it was a cute show, but nothing what I had seen before.

I believe Ben Crawford is on all week and if you have the chance go see him he is wonderful!!!!

I saw it on Friday, and Sutton came out the stage door then too, which for a friday night was very empty, only about 12-15 people there. Also they have new playbills.

Yea I saw the new playbills. It was funny when the cast came out to sign they didn't know about the new playbills so they were looking at them. I was just shocked that Sutton Foster came out because I have heard that pigs will fly when she comes out and signs. lol. But it was a pleasant surprise.

This is the new picture for the playbill...The marquee's are also different. The picture is similar to the new playbill but only has Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey. Updated On: 5/3/09 at 05:07 PM

Shrek must be making some money, that much color has to be exepnsive, & even changing the marquee. They are marketing it as a movie though, but I like it.

They also overhauled the site for the 3rd time.

Yea well from the looks of it Saturday night they need as much advertising as possible...I would say only about 60% of the orchestra was full.

I totally agree with you about the show last night... and I saw you at the stagedoor.. I thought Sutton was great (this was my 2nd time) but apparently she didnt feel that well at the stagedoor as I asked her for a picture and she said she didn't feel well and just wanted to get home to relax as soon as possible. I thought Ben was AMAZING!! As Shrek and apparently Brian has the flu (or at least that is what the security guard said. BTW he is the collest security guard in the world).

Just a follow up question... does anyone know if Ben is going on for Shrek all week? Specially, I'm looking for May 10, Sunday evening or Tues May 12 or either Wed show.

When I asked him how long is was going on for, he didn't know. He didn't even know if he was going on for Sunday (today)he said he doesn't get a call til like 10 in the morning but if Brian has the flu i couldn't have seen him in the show today as yesterday was his first day out.

I remember you too WDWfreak! Sutton said the samething to my friend and I about taking a picture with her. I was just happy to see her that close up lol I am a huge fan. I think Brian is back in the show because someone just wrote a review about the matinee today and it was mentioned that all principles were in. So I am assuming Brian is all better.
